Disaster of The Day

I have not been on Gather much lately as being a mother of three boys seem to take up most of my time. The baby is still sweet and easy going, my oldest son is doing good in school, and my three-year-old is finally beginning to like his baby brother just a tiny bit.

This morning I was able to find some time on the bike, and before I knew it it was lunch time. Between making funny faces to the baby and having toddler talk with my three-year-old I actually managed to both burn calories and read a bit of a book I just started.

Well, it was lunch time and I felt ambitious. I knew I would only get an undisturbed shower, if I fixed my toddler some lunch first. I decided to try and make him a car sandwhich. Basically a cheese sandwhich shaped like a car. To eliminate waste, I made the left overs into a road and a flag, and I was pretty proud of myself.

My pride soon turned into horror, when my three-year-old saw it.

 

"It's not Lightning McQeen!!!" he said and burst into tears.

 

I tried, but I failed.....

 

Now, there was no way that I was going to serve him something else, as he loves a cheese sandwhich, and he had requested a race car. This meant that I did not get a quiet shower....

Ahh, motherhood...I love it, but sometimes I seriously feel inadequate.

Ah, the joys of children. My 16 yo daughter is just as dramatic and hard to please.

oh I have done things like that - you are not alone - lol and my son likes Lightening McQueen too :)

as for disasters my son RIPPED out one of his teeth and I mean RIPPED - as in tore up his gums to get it out - all for tooth fairy money - ~oh the joy~

Wow, Denise that sounds very scary. I hope he'll be alright with no more mouth issues. Is this the first tooth that came out?

No disasters, but a weird incident. I had a lady on the bus grab at my drink, trying to secure the lid. Uh, germs being spread where the drink is going towards my face? Very strange.

Oh yes, the joys of motherhood! LOL!

Today, I had a pretty good day. We met with my aunt and uncle who lost their son 3 weeks ago, that was hard. Still very emotional and they just look so tired and sad. :(

Not today...BUT....Sunday I threw my back out (shaving my legs) it was better Monday, but then I did it again Monday afternoon (doing something equally as stupid) and then yesterday morning, I slipped on my bathroom tile floor, fell on my hip and hit my head on the edge of the door. I scared myself to death. Today I've been very careful.

Wow, Sue, it sure sounds like you ran into some bad luck. I hope your back is doing a bit better....be careful!! Wet bathroom tile can be very dangerous.

There's an old saying that comes to mind when dealing with toddlers:

1. You can't win, you can only break even.
2. You can only break even at absolute zero.
3. It's impossible to achieve absolute zero.

Congratulations on starting the book. Sometimes it is amazing how such a small luxury can be such a relief to the day!

I hope your toddler realized he would be doing Lightning McQueen a favor by consuming the competition!

disasters around here have been the grandkids down with stomach yuck....and me and Jasmine down with severe colds, but life has to go on...and we have to keep going

Haha I know the feeling all too well! We have a lot of those breakdowns, especially when it comes to me not preparing the food the way he wants it. :)

My kids have all been angels for the last two days. Even the baby hasn't cried much at all, and I got to sleep for 5 hours straight last night! Tomorrow is the last full day I have the 3 that aren't mine, so I'm preparing for a long day since I know they will be sooo excited.

Some day when he's all grown up and married, this will be a story that you and the mother of his children will laugh at when their 3-year-old does the same thing.

As for my day, when I got home from the cafe, my husband gave me two roses (the last ones from the garden out back) and a glass of my favourite Croatian plum brandy. :)

What a sweet husband you have Leah. Now, how have your roses been able to survive this long? I thought you would be freezing up there by now.

He sure is sweet!!! As for the roses, it has not been as cold as we expected, so they lasted for quite a while. Now it's started to get pre-Winter cold, so they were going to fall off anyway. That's why he decided to grab them before they did. I'm looking at them right now.

And we're about to run out of Croatian plum brandy, so he's going to get me another bottle tomorrow. :) What a sweetheart! :)

So funny! I know exactly how you feel! I think I've accepted (with a bit of sadness) that I'll never have a truly quiet moment to myself ever again. Oh well, the kids are cute....they're worth it!

Thank you everyone for all of your comments, it's amazing how those little things in life seem so big:) I am up in the middle of the night, because my adrenaline went skyrocketing for a moment, and I cannot fall back a sleep.

My toddler stepped into a toy box on the way to my bed and made a huge commotion that got my husband and I sitting up and me running very fast. No one got hurt, but they did get a reprimand to make sure to clean their room up tomorrow (today).

Hope you can get some sleep soon. I'm up waiting for the little one to start screaming that he's hungry. It's only a matter of time. He's been wiggling in his sleep for about 20 minutes now, so pretty soon he'll want his "midnight snack" I might get to bed about 1:30 or 2am, then I'll be awakened about every 90 minutes or so for him to get a snack!

Is your littlest one sleeping thru the night yet?

You should have heard my little one's doctor the other day. She said something similar to "His belly is now big enough for him to go for long periods without eating, so don't feed him at night anymore." I personally picked this doctor, but lately I have been envious of the fact that she still wears high heals:) Anyway, I did not say anything, but she sounded like it was very easy to get the baby to go through the night without eating...and my conclusion was that it had been a while since she had been up all night for feedings:)

No, the baby does not sleep through the night every night. I would say he probably does 30 percent of the time, but that is with a late night feeding before midnight, and then up around 5 a.m., which is pretty good and a whole lot better than what my toddler ever did. Of course my toddler comes to my bed every night, so there is nothing called uninterrupted sleep in my house:)
At two, my girls don't eat at night anymore, but they still find various reasons to wake up throughout the night. Last night one of my daughters started screaming and crying and I couldn't find my glasses and I panicked. I yelled for my fiance to help me, and he did, and we got her settled again. Must have been a bad dream. but after that adrenaline rush, i was wide awake at 1:15, so I moved out to the couch to read for awhile. *sigh* i keep telling myself that I can sleep when i'm dead.

I have always been a big eater. LOL I remember Mom talking about the night i was born. She wanted them to wake her up to feed me, but they never did. She really blasted her doctor, until she was informed that I slept through the night, and that's why she didn't wake me up. LOL That was the night I was born, and from what she tells me, every night of my life since!

it's gets easier..trust me..I was there... I just ran home as I knew that my youngest (the only one home now..2 in college) was coming home from school. I get into the house and he tells me that he'll be back by 6pm. he was going to a friends house.

I don't know about that specific car that he mentioned, but I might have a car cookie cutter. what shape is the car?

j - I'm so behind and I apologize - first of all, I love that you made his sandwich into a car - ok wrong one but still - reminds me of the way my husband serves me fruit - cuts faces in watermelons or uses oranges for an alligator - you probably do the same!

Sorry he gave you a hard time about the car but glad he finally came back and ate it! It's been so long since my children were young that I've forgetten what it was like to not have any time to myself......the good news is, it does get better!

My kids are 28, 33 and 39 so enjoy it - they grow up too fast.
