I got so excited, I kissed the guy who handed out the awards:) LOL - just on the cheek of course. I didn't even open the envelope with the prize money until I got home and of course the award plaque is now hanging in my dining room, just for a little while anyway.
My work is currently on display and for sale until the end of January at the 22nd Annual Pinellas Park Art Society's Photography Show in Florida.
I had a good feeling about this from the beginning, but the discovery that the judges were independent judges, an art critic and a Florida magazine editor made it even sweeter. I felt truly honored (and like jumping up and down shouting I won, I won:)
Here is the winning entry

No, I didn't win first prize, but hey, it was my first time entering any photography show competition. I'm happy for the guy who won the first prize in the digital category, because I thought his entry was amazing and required extensive digital experience and some expensive software - neither of which I possess. I walked away with third place, some welcome cash and a big grin on my face.
I find myself increasingly attracted to digital art and to fine art photography, it's the photographic style I'd like to develop more in 2011. Sometimes I just want to throw away everything I ever took a picture of and start fresh:)
Thank you to all my gather friends who always supported my photographic endeavours and
a word of encouragement to all who are chasing their dream
You can't win the race if you drop out.
Thanks for looking and
letting me brag a little - yay, I won!

There was just something about them that made me stop in my tracks.
Thanks for submitting to

Thank you for sharing your win with the Triple Name Club where it's now featured.
Congratulations!
Now featured at Gather's Best Writers and Artists.
But I want to yell when I hear you want to throw away all of your photography to this point. Rose...you are so talented in so many mediums. Don't throw any of it away. Did you get the contact information for the editor? I would consider sending her a thank you note, with the offer of sending a contact sheet with some of your great unedited photos of Florida.
Congratulations! Here's to the first of many, many recognitions for you, Rose.
I'll get the info tomorrow - the editor didn't hang around for the awards anyway.
I am slowly learning about some of the opportunities in our area, but sometimes I think it is all a well guarded secret and not easy to get in, much less get recognition.
Gather friends are the best!!!!!!!!!!
