My daugther got attacked at school today.

If any of you know of my daughter, she was hit in the eye today. I filed assault and battery charges against the girl who hit her. These kids start drama over nothing, and now, this.

She threatened my daughter, yesterday and tried to attack her before the bus drove away. Todya, I told my daughter just to ignore her, and I thought it would pass, but this morning the girl sucker punched her. My daughter did not fight back, for which I am very grateful.

I had to taker my daughter to hospital. The doctor said that she a minor head injury, and has to stay home for two days which means she misses school. I don't know what else to do to protect her. She is awkward in social settings, but she is kind and sensitive. Kids take any remark and run with it.

I feel for your daughter. is there away you can file a lawsuit against the school for not protecting your daughter?

If it didn't happen on school property, so the school can't do much....we've been there.
I really don't know what to do. Is changing schools an option?

I thought things were bad when I was in school and the jackasses spread rumors that got teachers fired, but things have gotten worse in the 11 years since I graduated highschool.

I am very quick to call the cops and my attorney when threatened, because I know that ignoring them just doesn't work anymore!!!

I learned in school that teachers, and other school authorities take the place of the children's parents, while the children are at school, thus it is the school's responsibility. The fact that schools are not clamping down harder on bullying seems to be an America-Canada-wide problem, and probably big in other countries too. I'd go after the kid, the kid's parents, the school, and everyone else I could think of that may have even the smallest bit of responsibility in this case!!! They need to learn, somehow.

They are going to suspend everyone involved including my daughter if it continues.

Why are they going to suspend your daughter? She was not an offender!! That's like me getting attacked on the street, and suffering more consequences than I already suffered from the initial attack.

It's called No Tolerance Leah.....everyone involved gets suspended. It doesn't matter who started it or if you didn't fight back. We dealt with it when my son was in school (he's in college now).

that is ridiculous, to punish the victim! it is the school's job to ensure the students' safety, NOT to kick them out when someone bullies them~

I am so sorry to hear that. I am so glad that I do not have any kids in school anymore. I got so tired of hearing about the corruption and drama in school. My daughter had alot to do with it though, I hate to admit. I did not know it til later on after she moved out, how she must have provoked it. I do not know what the heck is wrong with alot of kids these days., my daughter included. My daughter did not bully or anything like that but she did start stuff to get picked on for later.

I grew up and graduated high school in San Diego County (which is where I believe you live). We didn't really have bullies, but the aggressive kids were afraid of me, even though I was a geek. I had my own ways of getting even.

I grew up in the Bronx but it wasn't that bad. Now we live in a farm community. My question is where are the parents?

we were always taught that if someone was picking on us to ignore them and it will go away but with todays teens they don't fall for that one, it seems to anger them even more. The kids of today are very different then when we were little. All bets are off on what will work and what won't. Good luck I will keep your daughter in our prayers.

Another thought is the State Attorney General. I had a friend who had to go file a claim with the Attorney General. They came and investigated and said they could file a claim and get some money from it but they only wanted their 'Grandson" to be treated fairly.

The Attorney General went to the school, investigated, then had a meeting with Board of Education members and principle, even the teachers. It worked and he never had a problem again.

I hope the other girls parents are reasonable and punish the girl themselves. My kids knew they wouldn't want to face me if they bullied or hit another kid. I send the same message to my grandkids. The parents also owe you a hospital bill and they should make the girl work it off.

The law by itself can't stop bullying. Parents have to start parenting.

That's a big part of the problem Nancy. As a teacher, I have had parents come in telling me I was wrong and that their kid would never do something.....even though we had the kid on video. It's amazing what parents will ignore or try to weasel their kid out of....

It is not just the kids, it is the parents as well. Nobody seems to realize their actions have consequences. They always blame someone else.

It appalls me that your daughter was physically assaulted. How can one learn in school when they fear being harmed? Things are not that much different from when I was young but it seemed that the middle school years were the worst. By the time high school was reached maturity seemed to have caught up a bit and their was somewhat less violence.

Carol, this is so sad and awful. I'm so sorry for your daughter for the trauma, physical and emotional. And, for your family. The schools have abdicated responsibility as most parents have. What will it take for people to wake up and raise this generation? After all, aren't they going to run the world some day? I hope you are able to resolve this in such a way that your daughter is not punished, by the school or being harassed further.

I'm so sorry, Carol. That's just terrible and beyond ridiculous.
The emotional scars of things like this usually far outweigh the physical ones so be sure those are tended to as well.

I have noticed that in this era, parents are taking less and less of a role in their children's lives and expecting the school to raise their kids for them, and people like this girl that assaulted your daughter are the end result of that way of living and thinking.

It all comes back to this feeling of entitlement and lack of responsibility that is rampant in our nation now. Until we get all these parents to step back up to the plate and fulfill their responsibilities as parents, I'm afraid things like this will only get worse.

Is home schooling feasible? in pa they have free cyber school, i would love to do this for my son when he is older. you can still do sports and bands and stuff

I am so sorry this happened to your daughter. I hope you can get somewhere with the principal/ school board....

Many years ago when one of my sons was first diagnosed with epilepsy he was on Depakote. He was more or less doped up and was made fun of. One boy knocked him into lockers... fortunately he did it in front of one of my sons teachers... and got expelled. It's very hard because other kids don't seem to have any concept of how cruel they can be.

I'm glad you pressed charges against her. Hopefully she will be suspended as well and perhaps she will think twice next time before putting her hands on your daughter or anyone else again. At least now her parents will be aware about what kind kid they are raising. I hope your daughter heals up fast, pysicaly and emotionally.

I'm very sorry that happened to your daughter. I truly hope she will be alright emotionally and physically.
