My Eureka Moment!

I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I have gotten seriously into genealogy and it isn't costing me a penny if I'm smart about it. It's all about learning all the little tricks that are out there. It might take a little time to find what I'm looking for, but it is such an amazing feeling when you do. I had one of those eureka moments last night!! I'm sure the entire house heard me!! lol

I have been blogging about it lately and if you haven't begun or thought that it would cost you big bucks to do it, you can follow me as I share. There are so many things that I didn't know until I began listening to podcasts on the topic, watching videos and reading! But it's all paying off. On the other hand, there are a ton of mistakes that you can make if you don't know any better. That's what my blog is all about... lol... all the things that I did wrong and all the things that I'm starting to do right.

Shaking The Family Tree

*who knows, we just might have some of the same ancestors... it's not as far fetched as you might think!

In our family, no one other than my mom and me have any interest at all. I like the fact that all that info is out there for the taking!! :)

A few years ago I spent some time doing some genealogical snooping and was able to trace some of my ancestors back to the mid 1700's . It was fascinating. I was even able to find a distant cousin online that shared old family photos with me.

it is addictive isn't it! I think that I'm hooked! The photos are especially fascinating aren't they. I keep hoping that I will find one that reminds me of someone in my immediate family! How cool would that be?

My wife was doing hers.. she got somestuff from her sister who is mormon, local library, library in another town where the family lived. found grave, even found a couple graves and imformaion her sister couldn't find. Think he said she was related to Tom Brokaw some how. I got as far as my great grand mother on my mothers side. Good luck.

cool my dad's cousin did a family tree book for our family years and years ago i'm in but not my kids and it is 3 books long

It is impossible to know everyone in my family tree. Pretty much my grandparents, aunts, and uncles, have over 10 to 20 kids each?!

Thanks for all the tips. I have been thinking of doing some geneology. When it comes to changing the spelling of names, my dad changed his last name from Lune to Lund when my sister was born so his children wouldn't be made fun of for their last name but that didn't help. His mom changed the name from the Russian when she arrived in this country so that her name would sound American. She went from Lunyonsky??? to Lune. So the names change for different reasons.
